Let Me Drip- Live Life on my Terms

This past month has been a difficult one, with schools closing, jobs closing, not being able to make money for yourself to live or not being able to get essential items for your home. With that being said, I want you to take a moment and think of one thing you have wanted to accomplish, whether it be an overall life dream or a goal you have put of due to circumstance. Now is the absolute time to achieve something you want. Put in the groundwork or research now so that later you can continue forward with no hesitation.

So, this week and forevermore, I want you all to let your melanin drip, be unapologetically yourself, don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve something you are aiming for whether it be a new business, college/ trade school, or even a new job.

As a mentor for middle and high school students, I have seen first-hand people (kids & adults) being told that they cannot achieve their dream so they need to choose something else. It is not a great thing to see someone's dream get shattered because another person does not believe in them or they may have underlying jealousy or something else. For children, I feel that no one has the right to tell them what they will be able to do in the future. For adults, I feel that no one has the right to make a judgment for you, family or otherwise.

Everyone needs the opportunity to be unapologetically themselves. There may be instances where you may feel that you cannot be yourself but that is when you need to be sure not to lose yourself being another person, especially in relationships, whether platonic or romantic. I remember times where I felt like I did not fit in with certain friend groups because they all got along very well and had similar personalities, but while within them I noticed that the interactions shift slightly depending on who is around. I learned not to force the interactions.

You should never feel the need to change parts of yourself to fit into anything. Now I am not saying to never change because there are times of growth that may change you but your underlying personality does not change. For instance, if someone comes to you and explains that your behavior is toxic to them, then that is a time to evaluate what may be going on.

If someone wants you to change who you are, whether it be a family, friend or acquaintance tell them LET ME DRIP.

See you next time!
